| A GUIDE TO SEASONAL BLOOMS | By Daisy Works

Blooming Marvelous

Nestled in the Nottinghamshire countryside, Daisy Works grow beautiful flowers & foliage on their little flower farm, whilst nurturing & caring for the whole biodiverse wildlife site.

Diligently selecting the most gorgeous blooms for floral designs whilst passionately caring for our environment drives their business; growing unconventionally with the interests of wildlife at heart, not just maximizing flower production. We thought there would be no better person to guide us through how you can use seasonal florals for your wedding day.

Winter Treasures

The rich blooms of under-cover amaryllis, anemones, narcissi, ranunculus & hyacinth make the perfect choice. Mix with the huge array of rich winter foliage & dried flowers, seedheads, and grasses from the summer for the most beautiful textural display.

Pretty Spring

Heralded by the arrival of daffodils and closely followed by outdoor tulips, giving us colours from the purest white through lucious pastels to rich jewel shades. Spring brings both the delicate & pretty as well as bolder blooms, with Rembrandt-esque double tulips, followed by the first scented sweet peas, sweet Williams, alliums with their purple globes and then bearded iris, glorious and fleeting. Around May to June, much loved fragrant & fragile peonies take centre stage. It’s a magical time of year.

Sunny In Summer

With roses in full bloom, summer is a bountiful never-ending list of floral fancies; from delphineums to lilies and for the more boho style, it’s the time for many wild flowers like poppies, cornflowers and larkspur. The possibilities are infinite – everything from a joyous riot of colour, to a sublime elegant pastel palette, the choice is yours.

Amazing Autumn

A season where larger blooms & rich autumn colours can lead to a bolder look. With the remaining late summer dahlias still in bloom, as autumn progresses, cosmos, nerines & kaffir lilies are followed by chrysanths – (the types that you would barely recognize, blousy & oversized - their fruity scent is so evocative of autumn!). The season is also accompanied with all manner of berries, sunflowers and aster daisies to name just a few.

About Daisy Works…

Fiona, specialist flower-grower, nature-inspired florist & owner of Daisy Works, says “With aesthetically-lead floral design, you don’t need to know what specific flowers you want for your wedding, that is the job of your florist! The overall generalized look and feel, the ambience you want to create is what’s important.

At Daisy Works, we nurture our flowers from seed to bloom, and we grow without chemicals or much intervention at all, so that we have flowers full of scent & character, and a field humming with bees, butterflies & wildlife galore. We have no need to use imported flowers and embrace the changes throughout the seasons, as we grow small amounts of hundreds of different plants to give us an ever-changing palette of blooms. As the seasons move throughout the year, the flowers change, and there is always floral & foliage interest of the moment.”
