Smashing Body Confidence
Amy Steed is a professional curve model who has made a name for herself modelling with some of the industry’s very best and she contributes her success to keeping her self-care and body-positive mind-set at the forefront of her career. Having worked for so many bridal companies, we couldn’t think of anyone to talks to us about Bridal Confidence. Amy, take the floor…
“Wouldn’t it be great if we all had “it” (that infamous BODY CONFIDENCE) 100% of the time? In today’s world, there are numerous pressures on women to look and be a certain way and sometimes this can lead to doubts creeping in and a big knock to the confidence we feel in our bodies and ourselves. Well, I have a little secret for you; “it” is not something that we suddenly wake up with, we have to work on it; for example, after years of modelling constantly believ - ing that I was too big and I didn't belong, I shifted my mind-set and I chose self-love over self-loathing. Now, as a curve model, I love being able to speak out and represent so many women &, hopefully, inspire a lit - tle spark of confidence. So here are my top tips towards bridal self-belief;
☐ Stop criticising yourself
☐ Take time out for you
☐ Do things that make you happy
☐ Surround yourself with positive people
☐ Practice mindfulness & gratitude
☐ Create loving & positive affirmations for yourself”
“DRESS SHOPPING…This should be a moment of excitement and fun, not dread and doubt; you deserve your Cinderella moment and here are some ideas to help you along the way. Before you start dress shopping, look at models who are a similar shape and size to you. This way you’ll get a much better idea of how different styles might look on your body. Focus on the things that you DO like about your body and get a dress that can showcase those part. If you can, step outside of your comfort zone and try on a dress you hadn’t previously considered. A dress that you didn’t anticipate just might end up being your favourite. Remember to dress the beautiful body you have now because it’s so much better to shop for the body you have than for some fictional “perfect” body of the future you hope to have. This will put additional pressure on you during your planning journey when you should be feeling loved up and enjoying the process.
Go into this experience being kind to yourself; act like you are your own best friend, talking words of love to ourselves. I know it's harder saying it than doing it but it really does work wonders for your confidence. Amy x”
