ARE THEY PERFECT FOR YOU…

“One of the biggest things to consider when hunting for the perfect wedding photographer is - Are they perfect for you? Ask yourself - Do you actually like them. It sounds simple but it is so important. The wedding photographer you choose will probably spend more time in your company at your wedding than some of your closest friends or family, they will set the tone of so many important moments throughout the day, I can’t stress how important it is to vibe with them. Always jump on a video call with your shortlist of photographers before you make that important decision.”

ARE THEY PERFECT FOR YOU continued…

“My main advice is to find a selection of photographers who’s work they like then arrange to have a chat in person or video chat.

This part is essential because you need to gel with your photographer possibly more then any other supplier because they are with you through out the day and to get the very best from people in front of my camera they need to be on the same wave length as myself so they understand and appreciate how I will capture their wedding day.”

DO YOUR RESEARCH…

“I would say look beyond the website showcase images and the carefully crafted wording and instead ask to see at least three full real wedding galleries to really understand what they can expect. I’ve heard countless stories this year from disgruntled guests where they had been mislead by their photographer and wished they’d had done more research after the initial emotion driven choices. A lot said their photographers had sent them these photoshoots, which at the time they didn’t realise they weren’t real weddings and assumed they were experienced photographers who know what to do on wedding days but in reality didn’t.”

HOW MUCH IS IT GOING TO COST…

The average cost for wedding photography in the UK for 2023 is £1,760 however, this can vary depending on so many factors. The cost of a photographer can vary on how much time they provide on the day itself, how many edits they do and if you wish to have a wedding album etc. Every photographer offers a different service at a different cost. Get quotations before hand and get a good understanding of what is included.

KNOW YOUR STYLE…

“First off, there are some fantastic wedding photographers in the Save The Date directory. That’s a great place to start. Have a breeze through the listings and see whose images grab your attention most. You need to like their style of photography. Not just the aesthetics of their work but also how they work. Do they capture documentary images, or are they more of a fine art or editorial photographer? They may be documentary with a fashion mix (like myself). “

KNOW YOUR STYLE continued…

“For me it’s always about the style of photography that suits the couple and the wedding itself. Sometimes it can be a gut feeling about matching and the images you love, most of my couples see previous images I’ve taken and just know they’ve seen want they want as it suits them.”

COUPLE TALK…

“My biggest tip would be to discuss with each other about what you both actually want from your wedding photographer. Then make a note of your wish list ready for when you talk to photographers. Ask the photographer questions and find out how they would approach your wedding and photography wish! Professional photographers will relish being able to answer this! I also personally think it’s really important that you get along with your photographer as they are with you for a huge part of the day!”

WHEN TO BOOK…

There isn’t a right or wrong answer for this but if you have your heart set on a particular photographer, we recommend to book as much in advance as possibly to avoid disappointment. Most photographers get booked at least 18 months in advance.
