The landscape of this shoot is what inspired me. It is a patch of farmland near me and whenever I pass it, it gets me daydreaming about an adventurous elopement. I could not get Wuthering Heights out of my mind when I passed this place, I could not get the thoughts of an incredibly intimate wedding on the hills, the sharing of personal vows and the wind swirling around a pair madly in love.
I worked with my ‘go to’ florist on this shoot, Amanda Steele. She is also incredibly local to this area, knew the exact spot I had fallen in love with and shared my vision immediately. I trust Amanda wholeheartedly with her choice of florals and colour palette. Amanda was inspired to use seasonal blooms that looked as though they could’ve been gathered by the wayside en route, hence the blossom & garden roses. Amanda also included anemones and Pussy Willow in the bouquet and tied it with a raw edge silk ribbon hoping the wind would catch it evoking a feeling of running off together.
Lucy, from ‘In the Details Design’, inspired by the romance of the day, finished the personalised vow books with ivory silk ribbons to create a dreamy feel. These personal vow books fitted well with the elopement theme, designed to treasure the most important words you’ll say forever!
Hair and Makeup was provided by Sophie, who knew it wouldn’t be Wuthering Heights-esque without hair blowing in the wind! But, to give the hairstyle something extra, a half up half down look was perfect. Makeup was inspired by Emma’s natural beauty, keeping it simple yet beautiful.
Marie from Willow & Grace Bridal provided the stunning wedding gown. When choosing the gown for a ‘Wuthering heights’ inspired shoot, one word came to mind to Marie: Romance. ‘Marjorie’ from ‘Elysee Etoile’ gave us all the romance with soft flowing organza and tulle skirt. This coupled with the baroque lace bodice with its high neck and cap sleeves was the perfect pick for ‘running up that hill’ (walking boots and tartan shawl too)!
Emma & Dale are a real-life couple and outdoorsy too. Their walking boots were their own! A wild elopement was a perfect fit for them. I loved their enthusiasm despite the cold winds and their chemistry kept them warm!
To complete the intimacy of the elopement, a traditional picnic was set up. Complete with pillows, candles, blossoms, antique books and rustic sourdough bread (baked by Amanda). It was kept simple and romantic, which essentially sums up the theme of this styled shoot. I hope some can take inspiration from it, especially as now more and more are considering smaller, intimate ceremonies. One could really make their wedding a truly romantic and personal occasion.
