Welcome to the wedding of Joely & Paul at Thorpe Garden

Whimsical and Romantic Lockdown Wedding

For many couples currently debating whether to go ahead with a smaller wedding in line with current restrictions, we think this wedding day goes a long way to show that smaller, intimate weddings can still be stunningly stylish affairs. In the beautifully rural backdrop of Thorpe Gardens, Joely and Paul said I do with a handful of friends and family and we’ve been given a sneak peek into their luscious lockdown day of love. So get ready to swoon over these gorgeous images and have a read of Joely’s details from the day.

Eye Candy

Joely says…

If I had to describe our wedding in 3 words it would be “boho, whimsical and romantic”. We magically found our wedding venue the night we got engaged, November 9th 2018 (right after Paul had said to me “let’s not look at anything until after Christmas”… Whoops!!!)

We booked a viewing immediately, it was just a white yurt with nothing in it, the ceremony building was a pile of bricks and a portaloo as the venue wasn’t to be opened until summer 2019. Despite this, we both said we would have got married there and then even in that state, which meant we knew it would be magical when it was all complete.

Also watching the process of our venue being built was such an amazing experience. Thorpe Gardens was so different, so unique and we immediately knew, after a few other wedding venue visits, that nothing else competed. The gardens are so romantic and whimsical, the Victorian walls are to die for and the yurt was just so huge, open and rustic, it fitted exactly what we were going for.

The Details

Thorpe Gardens even attained a very last-minute restaurant license to be able to give our guests a glass of champagne. This was a complete surprise to us on the day and was the most wonderful unexpected touch. For the reception, in accordance with lockdown restrictions, we then had a small family BBQ garden party back at Paul’s parents’ house along with a LOT of prosecco. After months of not seeing each other, it was such a wonderful opportunity for us to all catch up. My beautiful dress is from Needle and Thread. It’s a dress of my dreams full of embroidered blue and lilac flowers. This small ceremony gave me the opportunity to wear something a bit more unique and I’ve had messages from so many random people about where it’s from, I think it went down well… I’m going to have it shortened into a Midi dress for my honeymoon in November. The Groom and Groomsmen wore suits from Next, as we wanted something different to our big day suits and also something that they would all definitely wear again.
